Emergency Services
An emergency is an accident or sudden unexpected illness that needs to be treated right away or it could result in loss of life, serious medical complications or permanent disability. Examples of emergency medical conditions include:
- Heart attack or severe chest pain
- Loss of consciousness
- Bleeding that does not stop
- Severe or unusual abdominal pain
- Stroke, sudden paralysis or slurred speech
- Medically necessary detoxification
- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
- Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
- Changes in vision
- Confusion or changes in mental status
- Any sudden or severe pain
- Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Suicidal feelings
- Difficulty speaking
Upon arrival, you will be evaluated by a registered nurse and taken into the emergency department as quickly as possible.
In the treatment area, a physician/provider will evaluate you and determine whether laboratory, X-ray and other exams are necessary.
As with any medical visit, you may experience a waiting period while tests are evaluated or when staff members need to respond to patients who are more critically ill or injured.
Once test results are received, your doctor will advise you about the best course of treatment and may follow up with your personal physician.
